Redipor Distributor at CPH LabMed 2016
Despite being a small company, an increasing proportion of our business is in mainland Europe through our Redipor distributors. For many years we have been selling Redipor media to Italy thanks to our relationship with what was PBI (now part of VWR). In recent years we have begun to supply media via distributors in Poland, Slovenia and Denmark amongst others.
Denmark was my destination for three days at the end of September to support our Redipor distributor, Dorte Egelund, at CPH LabMed 2016 in Copenhagen. This is a trade fair for manufacturers and suppliers to most types of laboratories in Scandinavia. Dorte has been a Redipor distributor since 2014 and this is the second time we have supported her at this bi-annual event. This was my second visit to Copenhagen this year after visiting the Danish capital for a beer festival (in my opinion one of the best in the world and I’ve been to a few) back in May. That’s a different story however and not one for this blog!
As the technical guy here at Cherwell Laboratories, Dorte required support in regards to the whole plethora of different media and presentation options with our media. For the three days I was present, there were plenty of enquiries for our standard media, my chance to speak to the customers came when they were after something not on the main list or a bespoke item.
For example there were a number of delegates from start-up companies who enquired if we could supply them with irradiated agar in smaller packaging sizes to reduce wastage. Although not advertised in our main list of popular items we are able to supply irradiated media in packs of 5 and 3 rather than the standard 10.
One of the most important aspects of the visit was to speak face to face with Dorte about any queries regarding our products, amendments we can make to our products, future and potential opportunities. In regards to the final point I was sent packing off to talk to a potential new customer who was also exhibiting at the event. Going up to people and having to introduce myself is not my speciality as I can be rather shy. Whatever I did say seemed to attract his interest as he came over to our stand to view our products and talk about his requirements. Fingers crossed with that opportunity. At least I wasn’t asked to go and hand out bags with Dorte’s logo on to passers-by like her young assistant Jakob. He didn’t look keen and I’m not sure he managed to shift any!
Overall Dorte considered the event a great success. She got plenty of interest for all of the products she had on display and gave herself plenty of follow up work to do when she went away on holiday a few days later (lucky so and so). I suppose when you run your own business you’re never really on holiday! I was glad I was able to make a contribution and look forward to doing something similar again soon.
